Indie Night Film Festival Atlanta: Morris Chestnut and Dave Brown Bring Independent Filmmakers to the Spotlight. A showcase of diverse and talented filmmakers.
Dave Brown, founder of Indie Night Film Festival, brought his vision to a sold-out show at The Plaza Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. The Plaza Theater is Atlanta’s oldest operating independent cinema. Insight Magazine was right there in the middle of all the action. The venue was nostalgic. There was something that reminded you of every decade of film and the evolution of what we recognize it to be today.
Dave Brown, a Morehouse College alumnus, founded the festival 11 years ago to give independent filmmakers an opportunity and platform to showcase their work. The event occurs weekly at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The InBe on the lookout for a city near you as the festival is expected to make an appearance in Miami, New York, Dallas, Houston, DC, and San Francisco. The success of the weekly event has even the naysayers shook. However, “No” is not a word that is in Dave Brown’s vocabulary and his determination has been an inspiration for indie filmmakers across the United States.
The kickoff in Atlanta was all around amazing. The energy on the red carpet was electrifying. Morris Chestnut hosted the event and there were many other legends and upcoming talents that made an appearance such as Terri J. Vaughn, Clifton Powell, Jill Marie Jones, Roberto Sanchez, Karon Joseph Riley, Robiiiworld, and J YoungMDK. The Plaza. The show featured six independent short films. “Perspectives” was written and directed by Veronica Nichols.” Mixed Girl” was directed by Josiane “Des Gray” Desir. “Flipped” directed by Lawrence Watford. “Heroes”, directed by, Roberto Sanchez. “Enough is Enough” directed by Monique C. Baisden, and M. Denise Simmons as well as, “ON Board Documentary” directed by Deborah Riley Draper.
Guests were still trying to get in the door after it was sold out. If this is any indication of what the future Indie Nights will look like in Atlanta, I suggest you purchase your tickets early. Dave Brown is doing something incredible with the Indie Night Film Festival tour thus it continues to stand the test of time.
